The Next Big Thing! A- Work- in -Progress

The Next Big Thing!

A Work-in-Progress

My WIP blog hop follows a tag from +Kate Thompson. She was tagged by her friend +Patrick JonesThe idea is to answer a few questions about my current work-in progress and then I invite or "tag" other authors to share the love. I never talk about my writing to anyone so this is a BIG step for me!
So here goes!

What is the working title of your next book?

Humanity (...this too is a work -in-progress, but for now this is the title)

Where did the idea come from for the book?

"There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you." - Maya Angelou.
I have a story to tell and I will be in pain and agony until I tell it! :)

What genre does your book fall under?

Contemporary Fiction

What actors would you choose to play the part of your characters in a movie rendition?

I never gave any thought to choosing actors, I'm too busy trying to get the words out my mind and onto the page!

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

Sasha begins to recall events in her life to learn when her distrust of people and relationships started and to unlock secrets of the past before she looses the humanity within herself.

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

The book will be self-published, but I will not close the door to the opportunity of agency representation.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of the manuscript?

It's still a real work-in-progress and the first draft is not complete. The goal is to have it complete by the end of the summer and ready  for publication by the end of the year.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

It's Terri McMillan attitude with Jessica Barksdale Inclan drama with a little Sophie Kinsella comedy!

Who or what inspired you to write this book?

I don't know if you would call it inspiration or motivation. I have grown weary of existing and allowing fear of failure and rejection to keep me from doing something I truly have loved to do since I was a very young girl and so I write, this book just happens to be the first.

What else about the book might pique the reader's interest?

The story starts in a room with Sasha, her mother Lola and her father Neal. The book opens with 3 month old Sasha being held out a window by her mother, Lola as she yells "I'm going to drop her!" After Neal  manages to get the baby from Lola, she goes into a fit of rage and scratches his face so badly he requires medical attention.

More chaos, tragedy and insanity continue throughout Sasha' life and the episode in the window is just the beginning.

  1. This sounds like a great premise. I think all writers are plagued by fear of failure and rejection. It's scary putting a piece of ourselves out there for the world, but holding that book for the first time is amazing.

I found your great blog through the WLC Blog Follows on the World Literary Cafe! Great to connect! I would like to invite you to come visit my humor blog: http://telegatales.com/blog-2

    1. I hope the premise will turn into a good read. I'm working hard daily to overcome those two fears. Thanks for stopping by. I will visit you soon.

  2. Loved your Next Big Thing, Shirletta. You hooked me, mom holding 3 month old Sasha out the window! Looking forward to your novel. And thanks for taking on the Next Big Thing and sharing your work!
