So you've written a book... congratulations! Those hours
that you spent hunched over your keyboard have finally paid off!
Your work has been professionally edited (hopefully), wrapped in a beautiful cover, and is now ready to find its way into the hands of all the readers anxiously awaiting your debut. Here are 5 tips on what to do to get your sales rolling:
Your work has been professionally edited (hopefully), wrapped in a beautiful cover, and is now ready to find its way into the hands of all the readers anxiously awaiting your debut. Here are 5 tips on what to do to get your sales rolling:
- Become familiar with social media outlets and learn how to work them! Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc., can be great ways to reach family, friends, and new readers who may be interested in your work.
- Book a blog tour. Find a reputable blog tour company or contact bloggers who feature books in your genre and schedule interviews, guest posts, and/or book reviews.
- Become familiar with book clubs in your area and with online book clubs that read your genre. Offer to attend a meeting or join in via the internet if the book club decides to read your book.
- Place promotional ads. Where and how often you place ads will depend on your budget, but be sure to research the promotional outlet before paying any money to make sure it’s worth the investment.
- Attend local literary events. Conferences and other events that invite open participation are great places to network with readers and other authors. Be sure to have business cards, bookmarks, and BOOKS on hand.
Remember to be patient when building your platform. Your
book wasn’t written overnight, so don’t expect your sales to skyrocket
overnight either. Continue to find new ways to introduce your work to potential
readers and most importantly, keep writing!
